Edgar Jewel Shelton, Sr., "Shorty" was born March 8, 1932 in Brenham, Texas. He was the son of the late Hal Shelton and Birdie Hogan. Edgar moved to Seymour in 1959. He was united in marriage to the late Lue Vern Shelton. He is preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Riley, Jr. "Sonny", two granddaughters, Raven Washington and Emtisse Newton, one grandson, Gabriel Fulbright. Edgar was a longtime member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he sang with a quartet group called the Flying Clouds. He worked for Montgomery Tractor Company in Seymour, Texas for many years. He got his degree at Vernon College in mechanics and worked at Ingersoll-Rand who was bought out by Stanley Tool Company in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was the best step-father/father anyone could ever ask for. He was just the best daddy to all of his children. He was a very humble person and always tried to help others. He never had a mean word to say about anybody. Edgar was called home on the evening of October 4, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memory 8 children Vernon Fulbright (Gail) of De Soto, Texas, Lumantha Martinez (Camilo) of Dallas, Texas, Rita Wright (Alan) of Lancaster, Texas, Luenne Luckey of Mesquite, Texas, Lavater Fulbright of Wichita Falls, Texas, Edgar Shelton, Jr. (Shirley) of Olathe, Kansas, Rita Daniels of Williamsburg, Virginia and Edward Shelton (Robin) of Alexandria, Virginia, his sister Rosie Davis of Seymour, Texas, sister-n-law Anne Barrie of Terrell, Texas, brother-n- law Hollis Byrd (BJ) of Grand Prairie, Texas; 18 grand children, 49 great-grand children, 7 nieces, 4 nephews and a host of others that loved him dearly. He will be truly missed.
