He enjoyed the little things of this job, the hamburger baskets and Cherry Cokes always held a special place in his heart. His parents were very proud of his dedication to helping his large family thrive. When the family moved to Plainview, Texas, Manuel started working at the local cotton gin. He often translated for his coworkers, being one of the only members of the crew who was bilingual. Later, He spent some time in Graham, Texas working at E & H Drilling. Manuel prided himself on being independent and providing for his way in life. He grew in strength and confidence through these years of hard work. In Seymour, where he spent the remainder of his life, Manuel made his money working for himself by landscaping various properties until he retired in his mid 50's.
