Jerry Ray Ermis, age 60, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2012 at the Hospice of Wichita Falls. Wake service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday at the Seymour Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be said at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Albert Francis Kanjirathumkal and Deacon Jim Novak officiating. Interment will be in the Seymour Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Ermis was born May 6, 1952 in Seymour, Texas, to Jerome and Veronica "Frony" Franklin Ermis. He grew up in Seymour and was a 1970 graduate of Seymour High School. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army, served in Germany, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and M-16 Sharpshooter Medal. After leaving the service he returned to Seymour, and met and married Laura Katherine "Kathy" Jeffress on August 6, 1977 in Seymour, Texas. Active in his community, he was named an Honorary Fireman for the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department on December 19, 2011, and was awarded an Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree in 1997, in recognition of outstanding service to Vocational Agriculture and to the Future Farmers of America. He was a past and current director for the Miller Brazos Soil Water Conservation District, and was named Conservation Farmer of the Year by the Miller-Brazos Soil Water Conservation District, during the 22nd Annual Baylor County Ag Appreciation Day on April 10, 2012. He was a farmer and rancher, and owned and operated Ermis Dozier Service with his brother and sons for many years. He was appointed as a Baylor County Commissioner on June 6, 2003 and served out that term as well as a subsequent term. He was a member of VFW Post #7871, the American Legion, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Ermis of Seymour, Texas; two sons, Jeremy Ermis of Seymour, Texas, and Justin Ermis and wife, Emily of Seymour, Texas; his mother, Frony Simaichl of Seymour, Texas; two sisters, Mary Ann Hall and husband, Frank of Seymour, Texas, and Judy Holden and husband, Derrell of Seymour, Texas; a sister-in-law, Marlene Ermis of Iowa Park, Texas; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was also awaiting the birth of his first grandchild, Olivia Paige Ermis in February 2013.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerome "Jake" Ermis on June 1, 1975; his brother, Pete Ermis on February 28, 2006, and his stepfather, Bill Simaichl on December 7, 2007.

The family asks that memorials be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 207 W. Pecan St., Seymour, Texas, or to the Hospice of Wichita Falls, P.O. Box 4804, Wichita Falls, Texas 76308.

Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 P.M. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
