Floy M. Balch Obituary
Floy M. Balch left this life on October 10, 2020, to join her beloved husband, Judson, her parents, Walter and Annie Feemster, her brothers, Garland and Carol, and a host of other family and friends, to be in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born in the home of her maternal grandparents, Will and Luda Roberson, in Bluegrove, Texas, on January 16, 1920. Her family called her "Sister" and her friends called her "Modena." She grew up in Vera, Texas, and graduated from Benjamin High School in 1937. Her parents later moved to Seymour where she met the love of her life, and they were married in her home on June 12, 1942, with Judson's father, Reverend J. R. Balch, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Seymour, officiating. These were war years and Modena followed Judson who had joined the army to Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells, Texas, then on to Fort Polk in Louisiana, and finally to San Francisco, California for his embarkation by ship to the Pacific theater of war.
On Judson's return after the war, they made their home in Seymour where he practiced law and she became a housewife and stay at home mom to their son, Robert Judson Balch, Jr., who was born on July 9, 1947. They called him "Bob" and allowed him to grow up in those wonderful 50's giving him a lot of freedom to explore and learn things with his friends, play athletics, get an education, and grow up in the church. Bob would later follow in his father's footsteps and go to Baylor and become a lawyer.
During her long life, Modena worked as a clerk, legal secretary and owned an antique store. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Seymour where she was very active and a faithful nursery worker for many years.
Modena is survived by her son, Bob (Debbie), her grandsons, Dr. Robert Judson Balch III (Cayli) and Dr. Joshua Brown Balch (Daria), and three great grandchildren, Robert Judson Balch IV, Emerson Grace Balch, and Elizabeth Corinne Balch. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her. Hers was a life well lived as she imparted love, wisdom, and those great recipes serving delicious food to her family and friends. Rest in Peace our beloved
Floy M. Balch, and we'll see you again in the heavenly kingdom.
The last eight years of her life Modena resided at the Seymour Rehab and Health Care Center. Her family wants to thank all the staff for their great care and love for her. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at the Riverview Cemetery in Seymour under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home. Social distancing will be observed at the service.
