Sunya Cowles Brown, 69, of Seymour, Texas passed away on January 19, 2022. Sunya was the oldest of two children born to Harlin and Roma Spires of Burkburnett, Texas. Growing up in Burkburnett she loved to ride motorcycles, her horse, and her Shetland pony. She enjoyed taking her horse to play days in Burkburnett. Sunya taught herself to play the guitar, and enjoyed her time playing drums in a band, Fibers of Illusion. After attending Burkburnett High School, she married James Warren Cowles in 1970 and had her only precious daughter Shalay.
Sunya and Shalay lived a happy life in Burkburnett. She worked hard all her life employed in various vocations. She loved going to church, gardening, cooking for others, a talented artist, and collecting ceramic roosters. Sunya moved to Seymour, Texas several years ago to live near her daughter Shalay and son-in-law Kelley Harrington. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls. Sunya taught vacation bible school and was a leader in the grief share support group for many years. She also worked in the prayer room and loved sharing her faith in the Wednesday night outreach program. She was a prayer warrior.
Sunya is preceded in death by her mother, Roma Spires, father, Harlin Spires, and brother, Brent Spires.
Sunya is survived by her daughter, Shalay Harrington, and nieces Nidrah Spires, SaReah Pearson and her spouse, John along with many other cousins.
The family requests that any memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
Interment will follow at Mountain Park Cemetery in Saint Jo, Texas with family members.
